To improve the standard of karate in the country, the Wadokai Karatedo Brunei Darussalam in Belait organised the first joint training with members of the Miri Goshinryu Sarawak Karate Association Saturday afternoon.

"By organising this first ever joint training, we will be able to refine our techniques and skills and also learn the art of discipline and new techniques to beat the opponent," said Haji Malai Mohammed bin Haji Malai Othman.

Sixty members from the Wadokai Club and 35 members from the Miri Goshinryu gathered at the clubhouse along Jalan Maulana Kuala Belait to show their techniques and presentation.

Haji Malai Mohamad, who is also the Deputy President and Technical Chairman of the Brunei Karate Federation, said his members have participated in the Miri Karate championship for two consecutive years and did the country proud by bringing home few medals.

"At the championship, we've established relations with several karate associations at the regional level and came up with the idea to hold a joint training to hone the skills of our members", he added.

He further stated that the association is proud for producing half of the national team in Belait and is now looking to seek potential members to represent the country in national games such as Sukma and SEA Games.

An under-21 years National Championship organised by the Brunei Karatedo Federation will take place on March 27 at the Mumong Sports complex. All Karate enthusiasts are encouraged to participate.
