| Kuala Lumpur - The South East Asian Games Federation (SGF), which held its meetings in Bangkok over the weekend has withdrawn the medals won by three athletes, including a Malaysian, in the 23rd SEA Games in Manila last year, Bernama reported yesterday. The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) Dr M. Jegathesan said the SGF Council had approved the recommendations of the Medical Committee to withdraw the medals of three athletes and make adjustments to the results based on tests carried out during the 2005 SEA Games. " Malaysian karate exponent, Rayner Kinsiong lost his silver medal which he won in the kumite 75kg. He was found to have phentermine, which is a stimulant found in slimming medications," he said. The silver will now be shared by the two bronze medallists, Xuan Luong - from Vietnam and Tong Kit Siong from Brunei," Dr Jegathesan said in a statement here. The gold for kumite 75kg was won by C. Mondolu from Indonesia. Dr Jegathesan said SGF also withdrew the gold medal won by the host nation's taekwondo exponent Esther Marie Singson in the woman's bantamweight category as tests showed that she had consumed furosemide, a kind of diuretic. " With that decision, the gold medal has now been awarded to silver medallist Juana Wangsa Putri from Indonesia while the silver will be shared by Farah Waheeda Haji Bujang from Brunei and Le Thi Thu Nguyet from Vietnam," said Dr Jegathesan who is also a member of the SGF Medical Committee. With that decision, the Philippines' total medal haul will now be 112-84-94 whereas Indonesia will now have 50-79-89. The third medal was withdrawn from a Laotian athlete who won the silver in the women's featherweight category in the taekwondo competition. "The Laos athlete's silver medal was withdrawn because of a Sport Rule Violation," said Dr Jegathesan. With that withdrawal, the silver medal will now be shared by an athlete from Thailand and another from Vietnam. |
