Tong Kit Siong, from KB Honbu, who was the Bronze Medallist in the 75 Kg Men's Kumite in the 23rd SEA Games 2005 was upgraded to Silver Medal as a result of the decision made by the Olympic Council of Malaysian (OCM) during the South East Asian Games Federation (SGF) meeting in Bangkok over the weekend (8 - 9 April 2006).

OCM decided to withdraw the Silver Medal won by  Rayner Kinsiong, Malaysia's 75 Kg Kumite exponent, after test showed he had phentermine, a stimulant found in slimming drugs.

With this new announcement, Brunei Karatedo Team bagged 3 Silvers from last SEA Games held at Cebu, Philippines on 27 - 29 November 2005.

 Brunei's Karatedo Medals Tally list from the 23rd SEA Games 2005, now stands at:- 

      • Tong Kit Siong, 75 Kg Male Kumite - Silver
      • Sim Chung Hiang, 70 Kg Male Kumite - Silver
      • Hj. Eddie Jofriani bin Hj. Johari, 55 kg Male Kumite - Silver  --->

Following the Brunei Karatedo Team's return from the Philippines SEA Games, on 11 December 2005, a  Majlis Tepun Tawar Ceremony was held at the KB Honbu.

 

This is a local Brunei Malay traditional custom of thanksgiving.  The thanksgiving was officiated by Sensei Hj. Okhida, the Brunei National Team Karatedo Coach, (holding Blessing Box in picture right), who sprinkled perfumed water onto all the dojo members, assisted by Masdiana (with flower basket) and Chung Hiang, scattered showers of flowers confetti along the way.

On 31 December 2005, during Wadokai's New Year Eve Awards Presentation Evening, in recognition of the duo's outstanding performance in the 2005 SEA Games, Chung Hiang & Kit Siong were promoted and received honourary Brown and Black (1st Dan) Belts respectively.

HRH Prince Sufri, who is President of the Brunei Olympics Council, during a recent press conference,  named  Karate, as one of the many events Brunei will take part in the next SEA Games 2007 to be held in Thailand.

In the 22nd SEA Games - Vietnam, Christopher Lo Jian Ming (picture Left, prize-giving) won the 1st Bronze Medal for the Brunei Karatedo Team. 

 

Altogther, the Brunei Karatedo players won 1 Silver by Fadillah Sanif (picture Right, who also won a Bronze, too) and 5 Bronzes in Hanoi, December 2003.
